David and I are so sorry to report that the Inn is closing. Thank you so much for thinking of us.
Westport is still the prettiest little secret on the North Coast, so please visit one of the other Inns or Bed & Breakfasts in the community.
Best wishes for the coming year,
Tammy

Whale and Dolphin sightings.
This morning David came to get the spotting scope to get a better view of the whales he had seen earlier. I hurriedly went with him and we searched the horizon, we couldn't find the whales again but did find something else........A pod of dolphins just meandering up and down in the water. We watched them for about an hour. They are spectacular to watch, some even jumped out of the water and gave us a really good look. They may have been bottlenose dolphins although it was hard to get a clear view of their noses. It didn't look like they had a very long beak in fact it looked like they were more round nosed with some whitish on their faces. The were traveling very slowly and breaching alot in groups of 10 to 15 and sometimes they would slap their faces on the water sideways.
I just love days like this when we can watch the surrounding animals at leasure.

Our trip to Wisconsin.
We had a really great time in Wisconsin this year. The weather was chilly with no snow where we were yet. The day we left it got cold and snowed. Boy am I glad to have missed that.
David's mom was overjoyed that everyone could come and have fun at his sisters "Surprise" birthday party. She had no clue!

Rainy weather
It finally happened! We are getting some much needed rains this weekend. Not to worry though it is cozy and comfy at the Inn in front of the Fireplace with plenty of Hot cocoa to go around.
With the rains comes green grass which is a lovely backdrop for the tumultuous waves.

Fall has come to the Inn
Well as everyone feels the cooler crisper air at home it has come to the coast as well.
The fruit tree leaves at the bed and breakfast have begun to change too. The air feels fresh and clean with a hint of coolness at night. The ocean waves have taken on the bright colors of aqua and green in the softer fall light. The many birds are a treat to watch as they pick seeds off the plants.
Make a date with your sweety to be together for a romantic fall weekend.
Pick your room, we'll be here for you.

Clear your Head!
If you are looking for just the right place to get away from it all; then you must try a stay with us.
We are quiet and peaceful. I'd say the loudest sounds you will hear might be the cry of a Red-tailed hawk soaring over head or a crashing wave on the beach. Or you can catch a glimpse of a deer or two wondering about most any day.
This time of year even the ocean seems calm and serene with its waves lapping the beaches and pelicans hunting for fish.
Of course there are still a number of happenings going on in Fort Bragg and Mendocino so you won't get board.
But maybe that is exactly what you'll need to recharge your spirit after a hectic summer.

Spring is here
The swallows are returning and building their nests, although some are moving into the old nest left from last year. In the morning it is quite a site seeing them all flying around catching bugs for breakfast.
The tides have been low so the abalone picking has been good for some.
The fruit trees are blooming like crazy and everything else is growing like weeds (literally).

Cottage Revival

Preparing for the upcoming season................
We have been feverishly renovating the Cottages. David is sanding the walls and laying new tile in the wet bar area.
If you have stayed in this cottage before, you're sure to like the changes. It is warm and inviting with touches of color and comfort.
Please let us know how you feel about the changes.

Sightings
This week has been a real treat for wildlife sightings.
We (well mostly David) have been watching 5 Steelhead fish in the creek, they just float along together in the water. We asked around and were told that they do that while they wait for a storm to produce more water in the creek to swim up stream. A Green Heron has been hovering overhead as of late too. A very pretty bird, at first I thought it was a big woodpecker. Some Buffalo head ducks have been hanging about also. David spooked a couple of deer the other night while on the way to the barn.
All in all it has been a very active time for animal watching.
